The below given article is about the History of Marathwada. Read this article to know some important things about Marathawada. Marathwada is an area that has some important things to know. It’s a part of Maharashtra State in India. It’s situated in the central eastern region of the state, and is known as being one of India’s leading producers of spices, sugar, oilseeds and cereals. It’s also one of the country's major producers of cotton for many years now, having reached its peak production levels back in 2003-04 at around 20%. So what’s so special about Marathawada? Well, more than anything else, it is the cultural heritage of Marathwada that makes it so interesting. Founded by the Vishnukundins on the banks of river Godavari in the 2nd century B.C., this region was later ruled by the Satavahanas, Rashtrakutrs and Chalukyas. By around 900 A.D., it was then conquered by Deogiri, also known as Daulatabad (the great city). Later in 1327 A.D. it was taken over by the Bahmanis of Gulbarga, who called it "Ahmadi". It was then taken into Mughal Empire by Aurangzeb in 1689 A.D. and finally, the region came under the Nizams of Hyderabad from 1724 A.D., who ruled till 1948-49. After this period, Marathwada came to be known as a separate state within Maharashtra India as a result of the Mahagujak series of agitations during 1951-56. Then in 1960 the administrative district of Aurangabad was carved out of the existing Osmanabad district. The rest of the erstwhile Marathwada region was included in it. When this state was formed, the total area was 6591 sq.km with an estimated population of 3,80,000. As per the 1971 census, its area has increased to 8163 sq.km but its population is estimated to be around 6 lakhs or so. The climate of this region is mainly dry and hot with summer temperatures around 37 °C and winter temperatures ranging from 15-20 °C .
